Regular Vs. Irregular

A regular Masonic lodge is defined by the fact that its charter can be traced to the Grand Lodge of England. A lodge can only be setup by the Grand Lodge of its Jurisdiction. A Grand Lodge can only be setup by another Grand Lodge.

The Grand Lodge of England was officially documented in 1717 and from this original Grand Lodge several Lodges were created within its jurisdiction. New Grand Lodges were also created in other countries so that Masonry could spread and help enlighten some of the best men of the time.

Within the state of Texas, this definition of a Regular Lodge is used to determine which organizations Masonic Lodges can have official communications with. Due to the fact that some organizations have appeared that are very similar to masonry but are unable to trace their charters to the Grand Lodge of England local lodges and masons must be selective whom they discuss Masonic business with.
